§ 51501 Inclusive Instructional Materials Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •School books can't say bad things about people because of their race, gender, religion, disability, or who they love.
  • •Books can't be banned just because they include different kinds of people or stories.
  • •Old books that are already being used can stay, even if they have diverse stories.

Example

A school wants to use a book that has stories about kids from different countries and families.

The school can use this book because it shows diverse people in a good way. They can't stop using it just because it includes different kinds of families or cultures.
