§ 48208 Hospitalized Student Instruction Notification

Key Takeaways

  • •If your kid is in the hospital and can't go to school, you must tell the school district where your kid normally goes to school.
  • •The school has 5 days to decide if your kid can get lessons at the hospital. If yes, lessons must start in 5 days.
  • •The school must tell your kid's old school that your kid is now getting lessons at the hospital, so the old school stops counting your kid as present.

Example

Your child breaks their leg and is in the hospital for a month. They can't go to their regular school.

You tell the school district about your child being in the hospital. The school then has 5 days to set up lessons at the hospital. Once lessons start, they tell your child's old school to stop marking your child as present there.
