§ 45160 School Employee Compensation Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •School boards decide how much to pay school workers who don't need special certificates (like janitors or bus drivers).
  • •This rule is for all school districts, including big city schools.
  • •If another law already says how much these workers should be paid, then this rule doesn’t apply.

Example

A school needs to hire a new janitor.

The school board gets to decide how much money the janitor will make, unless there’s another law that already sets the pay.
