§ 44897 Permanent Teacher Classification Rules

• •If you work in a school job that needs special training and finish your trial period, you can become a permanent teacher in bigger schools (with 250+ students).
• •In smaller schools (less than 250 students), the school can choose to make you a permanent teacher after your trial period.
• •This rule only applies if you already worked as a teacher in the same school district during your trial time.
• •Even if you become permanent, there are still some rules you must follow (like in Section 44956.5).

A teacher named Sarah works in a big school with 300 students. She finishes her trial year, which included teaching in a classroom.

Because Sarah worked in a big school and finished her trial time, she automatically becomes a permanent teacher. The school can’t easily fire her now.
