§ 35783 District Annexation Orders

Key Takeaways

  • •If a school district closes, the county decides where its students go next.
  • •The county picks nearby school districts that can take the students.
  • •The county must make this decision at least 30 days before the school year ends.
  • •The goal is to do what's best for the students and the new school districts.

Example

A small school district closes because there aren't enough students.

The county will look at nearby schools and decide which one the students from the closed school will go to. They have to do this before the school year ends so everyone knows where to go.
