§ 33543 Obama Presidential Election Instruction

Key Takeaways

  • •California might add lessons about President Barack Obama being the first African American president to school history classes.
  • •The people in charge of schools will decide if this lesson is added or not.
  • •This change, if it happens, will be part of the next update to what kids learn in history and social science.

Example

Imagine your school history book gets updated with new chapters. One of the new chapters might talk about how Barack Obama became the first Black president of the United States and why that was a big deal.

The law says that the people who decide what kids learn in school should think about adding this topic. If they agree, you might learn about it in your history class.
