§ 27003 Lump-Sum Death Benefit

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone dies, their family gets one big payment of money, not small payments over time.
  • •After this big payment is given, no more money will be paid from the plan for the person who died.
  • •This rule is about a special program called the Cash Balance Benefit Program.

Example

If your dad was part of this program at work and he passes away, your family would get one large check from his work plan.

After your family gets this check, the work plan won’t send any more money for your dad’s benefits.
