§ 26143 Termination Benefit Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •When you leave your job, you get money from two accounts: one from your boss and one from your own savings.
  • •The total money you get is just adding up both accounts.
  • •This rule is part of a bigger set of rules about retirement money.

Example

Imagine you worked at a company for 10 years and saved some money in your retirement account. Your boss also put some money in another account for you.

When you leave the job, you get all the money from both accounts added together. So if you saved $10,000 and your boss put in $5,000, you get $15,000 total.
