§ 23853 Surviving Spouse Death Payments

• •If someone dies, their spouse or chosen person can ask for money from a special fund.
• •This money includes any payments the person was supposed to get and any money they put into the fund.
• •The fund will pay this money as soon as they get proof that the person died.

A firefighter dies while on duty. His wife asks for the money he was supposed to get from his work fund.

The fund will give the wife the money her husband was supposed to receive, plus any money he had put into the fund, once they see proof of his death.
