§ 22666 Retirement Benefits Division Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a couple gets divorced or one of them dies, the other person can still get their fair share of the retirement money from a government job.
  • •This law makes sure that the retirement money is split fairly, no matter what.
  • •The old rule that could stop someone from getting their share is gone.

Example

A husband and wife get divorced. The husband worked for the city and has retirement money saved up.

The wife can still get her fair share of the husband's retirement money, even after the divorce. The law makes sure she gets what she should, and no old rules can stop that.
