§ 22659 Nonmember Spouse Retirement Information

Key Takeaways

  • •If you get part of a retired person's pension because of a divorce or separation, you have to give the pension system some info about yourself.
  • •You need to tell them your birthday, your social security number, and anything else they ask for.
  • •You have to give this info in the way they want it, like filling out a form or sending a copy of your ID.

Example

John and Jane got divorced. The court said Jane gets part of John's pension every month.

Jane has to tell the pension office her birthday and social security number so they can send her the money. If she doesn’t give them this info, she might not get her share of the pension.
