§ 22006 Retirement Benefit Protection

Key Takeaways

  • •Your retirement money is protected from being taken by others, even if you owe them money.
  • •No one can force you to give up your retirement money unless the law specifically allows it.
  • •You can't just give away or sell your retirement benefits unless the law says you can.

Example

If you owe someone money and they sue you, they can't take your retirement savings to pay the debt.

The law protects your retirement money, so even if a court says you owe someone, they can't take your retirement savings to pay it back.
