§ 216 Suicide Prevention Training Programs

Key Takeaways

  • •The state picks good online training programs to help schools teach staff and students about stopping suicide.
  • •These programs must be proven to work, follow state rules, help kids who need it most, and check if people learn from them.
  • •Schools can use these programs for free if their county gets money from the state, but they don’t have to use them.
  • •This only happens if the state sets aside money for it in the budget.

Example

A high school wants to train teachers to spot signs of suicide in students.

The state picks a good online program and gives it to the school for free. The school can choose to use it or not. The program teaches teachers what to look for and checks if they learned it.
