§ 21100 Public Welfare Property Grants

Key Takeaways

  • •You can give away your stuff (like money or land) to create or support places like schools, parks, or museums while you're alive.
  • •You have to write it down and give it to a person or group (called trustees) who will take care of it.
  • •If you're married or in a domestic partnership and the stuff is owned together, your partner has to agree too.

Example

A rich person wants to build a new public park in their town.

They can write a paper saying they're giving their land to a group of people (trustees) to make the park. If they're married and the land is shared, their spouse has to sign the paper too.
