§ 19997 Project Funding Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •Once your project gets money from the state, you can't ask for more—even if things get pricier.
  • •If your project costs less than the money you got, you must give back the extra cash.
  • •If you change your mind and don’t do the project, you have to return all the money.

Example

A school gets $10,000 to build a new playground but only spends $8,000.

The school must give back the $2,000 they didn’t use.

§ 19997 Project Funding Limits

Once an application has been approved by the board and included in the State Librarian’s request to the committee, the amount of the funding to be provided to the applicant may not be increased. Any actual changes in project costs are the full responsibility of the applicant. If the amount of funding that is provided is greater than the cost of the project, the applicant shall return that portion of the funding that exceeds the cost of the project to the fund. If an applicant has been awarded funding by the board, but chooses not to proceed with the project, the applicant shall return all of the funding to the fund. (Added by Stats. 1999, Ch. 726, Sec. 1. Approved in Proposition 14 at the March 7, 2000, election.)
