§ 19996 Project Cost Grant Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •The cost of a project should be similar to what other public projects cost in the same area.
  • •If your project costs more than usual, you can ask for a grant to cover up to 65% of the normal cost.
  • •The most you can get from the grant is $20,000,000 per project.
  • •You must prove you can pay for the rest of the project costs yourself.

Example

A city wants to build a new community center, but it will cost more than similar buildings in the area.

The city can ask for a grant to cover up to 65% of the normal cost of building a community center. If the normal cost is $10,000,000, the grant could give up to $6,500,000. The city must show they can pay the rest.
