AI SummaryVerified

§ 19973 Bond Issuance Authorization Committee

Key Takeaways

  • •The committee decides if they need to sell bonds to do the things listed in Article 2.
  • •They can choose how many bonds to sell and when to sell them.
  • •They don't have to sell all the bonds at once; they can do it little by little.

Example

Imagine your school wants to build a new playground but doesn't have enough money right now.

The school committee can decide to sell bonds (like IOUs) to get the money. They can sell some bonds now to start building the swings, and then sell more bonds later to add the slides and monkey bars. They don't have to sell all the bonds at once.

§ 19973 Bond Issuance Authorization Committee

The committee shall determine whether or not it is necessary or desirable to issue bonds authorized pursuant to this chapter in order to carry out the actions specified in Article 2 (commencing with Section 19955), and, if so, the amount of bonds to be issued and sold. Successive issues of bonds may be authorized and sold to carry out those actions progressively, and it is not necessary that all of the bonds authorized to be issued be sold at any one time. (Added by Stats. 1988, Ch. 49, Sec. 1. Approved in Proposition 85 at the November 8, 1988, election.)
