§ 19605 District Formation Argument Selection

Key Takeaways

  • •If many people write arguments for or against creating a new district, the election officials pick just one of each to share with voters.
  • •They first choose arguments from the board of supervisors or its members if available.
  • •If not, they pick arguments from regular voters or groups of citizens.

Example

A town is voting on whether to create a new school district. Ten people write arguments supporting it, and five write arguments against it.

The election officials will pick just one argument for and one against to share with voters. They will first check if the town’s leaders (like the board of supervisors) wrote one. If not, they’ll pick from the arguments written by regular voters or local groups.
