§ 17671 Shade Structure Cost Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about building shade structures (like covers for playgrounds) on school or college campuses.
  • •If the shade structure costs more than a certain amount, the school only has to spend up to 20% of that cost to make sure paths around it are accessible (like ramps for wheelchairs).
  • •The 'adjusted construction cost' is a special way to calculate the total cost of building the shade structure.

Example

A school wants to build a big shade cover over their playground.

If the shade cover costs $100,000, the school only has to spend up to $20,000 (20% of $100,000) to make sure the paths around it are wheelchair-friendly.
