§ 17323 Private School Building Safety

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines special words used for rules about private school buildings.
  • •A 'private school structure' is a building where 50 or more people learn (up to 12th grade) for more than 12 hours a week or 4 hours in a day.
  • •Public school buildings are not covered by these rules.
  • •Different types of engineers (like structural or electrical) are explained to make sure the right experts check the buildings.

Example

A private school wants to add a new classroom wing to their building.

Because the school has more than 50 students and the new wing is a big change, they must follow these rules. They need the right engineers to check the plans and make sure the building is safe. The local building safety office will also inspect the work.
