§ 17186 Bondholder Enforcement Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •People who own special bonds (like a loan to the government) can go to court if their rights are ignored.
  • •They can make sure the government does what it promised when it borrowed the money.
  • •The rules for these bonds are written in papers called 'trust agreements' or 'indentures'.

Example

Imagine you lent money to your friend to buy a bike, and they promised to pay you back every month. But now they stop paying and ignore you.

This law is like saying you can take your friend to court to make them pay you back, just like the bond holders can make the government follow the rules.
