§ 17100 School Facility Funding Insufficiency

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools can get money from two places to build new classrooms: a special fund and selling extra land they don’t need.
  • •Even with this money, there still isn’t enough to build all the classrooms schools need.
  • •This law is about helping schools that are too crowded.

Example

Imagine your school is super packed, and there aren’t enough classrooms for everyone.

The school can use money from a special fund or sell extra land to build more classrooms. But even with this help, there might not be enough money to fix the problem everywhere.

§ 17100 School Facility Funding Insufficiency

The Legislature hereby finds and declares that the State School Building Lease-Purchase Fund, pursuant to Section 17008, and the proceeds from the sale or lease of surplus school property are the two sources available to school districts to finance the construction of school facilities to relieve overcrowding. However, these sources are still insufficient to meet the construction needs statewide of school districts. (Added by Stats. 1996, Ch. 277, Sec. 2. Effective January 1, 1997. Operative January 1, 1998.)
