§ 17022 School Facility Approval Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools must use all their old buildings and land before they can get new ones.
  • •If they don’t use what they already have, the state won’t let them build new schools.
  • •They might have to work with nearby schools to share buildings if it makes sense.

Example

A school district wants to build a brand-new school because their current one is crowded.

The state will first check if they’re using all their old classrooms and empty buildings. If they’re not, the state won’t let them build the new school until they do.
