§ 16576 County Tax For Withheld School Funds

Key Takeaways

  • •If a school district gets money taken away by the state, the county has to make up for it.
  • •The county will add a special tax to people's property to get this money back.
  • •The money from this tax goes to the school district that lost the money.

Example

Imagine your local school didn't follow some state rules, so the state took away $10,000 from the school's funding.

Your county will add a small tax to your property bill to collect that $10,000. Once everyone pays this tax, the money goes back to your school to make up for what the state took.
