§ 16166 District Boundary Change Reporting

This law says that when a school district is merged into another district or its borders change, the county superintendent must quickly send a written report to the state board, and the board must then tell the State Controller about the change.

Key Takeaways

  • •The county superintendent must file a certificate within 10 days of the annexation or boundary change.
  • •The certificate must list the effective date, the area affected, and the new district name(s).
  • •The state board must promptly notify the State Controller with the same information.

Example

A tiny rural school district is combined with the neighboring district because the state redraws the district lines.

The county superintendent has to file a written certificate within 10 days that says when the merger happened, which area is affected, and the name of the new district. Then the state board sends a notice to the State Controller with those details.
