§ 15282 Citizens Oversight Committee Composition

This law tells a school or community‑college district how to set up a citizens’ oversight committee – it must have at least seven unpaid members, each coming from certain community groups, and members can only serve up to three back‑to‑back terms.

Key Takeaways

  • •At least seven members are required, and they must be unpaid.
  • •The members must represent specific groups: business, seniors, taxpayers, parents or students, and parent‑teacher groups.
  • •District employees, vendors, or contractors cannot serve on the committee, and members can only serve three consecutive terms.

Example

A local school district needs to create its oversight committee. It picks a local business owner, a senior center leader, a taxpayer‑association member, a parent of a student, a parent who is also in the PTA, a community‑college student (if it were a college district), and another community member to reach seven people.

The committee follows the law’s rules: each person fits one of the required categories, none are paid, and none work for the school district or are its vendors.
