Key Takeaways

  • •Board members and staff must always think about what students and families need first.
  • •They must follow all federal privacy laws like FERPA and HIPAA.
  • •They should listen to input from parents, teachers, and the public.
  • •They need to work together and create a cooperative culture.
  • •Decisions should be based on solid data, using experts and the people who will use the data.

Example

The board has to make sure the students' privacy is protected by the federal privacy laws, ask parents and teachers what they think, work together as a team, and use data experts to see if sharing the scores is a good idea.
