§ 10805 Educator And Student Data Sharing

This law says California's teacher and school data (like how many teachers there are, what credentials they have, and how students are doing) must be given to the State Chief Information Officer, who can then share it publicly while keeping privacy rules in mind.

Key Takeaways

  • •Teacher and student performance data must be shared with the State Chief Information Officer.
  • •The data must be non‑personal or aggregated and given at no cost.
  • •The CIO can publish the data publicly (paper or online) but must follow privacy laws.

Example

A school district sends the state a spreadsheet that shows the number of teachers with math certifications and the average math test scores for each school, without any student names.

The State Chief Information Officer can put that spreadsheet on a public website so anyone can see how teachers and students are doing across the state, as long as no personal info is included and privacy laws are followed.
