§ 25231 Investment Adviser Certificate Application

This law lets anyone who wants to be an investment adviser apply for a certificate by sending a form to the commissioner, and says the paperwork must be filed online.

Key Takeaways

  • •You must file an application with the commissioner to get an investment adviser certificate.
  • •The application must include a consent to service of process as required by Section 25240.
  • •All paperwork, fees, and updates must be filed electronically through the FINRA Investment Adviser Registration Depository.

Example

Jane wants to start her own investment advisory firm. She fills out the application, includes the required consent to be served with legal papers, and uploads everything to the online filing system.

Jane follows the steps the law describes: she submits the application with the consent and uses the web‑based system to file it, so the commissioner can review her request for a certificate.
