§ 12410 Membership Transfer And Termination

This law says that unless the rules of a group say otherwise, you can't give your membership to someone else, and your membership ends when you die or the group breaks up.

Key Takeaways

  • •You usually can't transfer your membership to someone else unless the group's rules allow it.
  • •Your membership ends when you die or if the group dissolves, unless the rules say otherwise.
  • •If the group allows transfers, they can't change the rules to stop you from transferring if you already had that right.

Example

You are part of a local club that has monthly meetings.

If you try to give your membership to your friend, the club can say no unless their rules allow it. Also, if you pass away, your membership automatically ends unless the club's rules say it can be passed to someone else.
