§ 9902 Retroactive Lien Transaction Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •New rules apply to deals or claims made before 2015, unless the law says otherwise.
  • •If a court case started before 2015, the old rules still apply.
  • •The new rules started on January 1, 2015.

Example

You took a loan in 2014 and didn’t pay it back. The bank wants to take your car in 2016.

The new rules from 2015 will be used for this, even though the loan was from 2014. But if the bank already sued you in 2014, the old rules apply.
