§ 9802 Retroactive Lien Transaction Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •New rules apply to deals or claims made before July 1, 2014, unless the law says otherwise.
  • •If a case was already in court before July 1, 2014, the new rules don’t change it.
  • •These rules started working on July 1, 2014.

Example

You took a loan in 2013 and didn’t pay it back. The bank sues you in 2015.

The new rules apply to your loan, even though you got it before July 1, 2014. But if the bank had already sued you in 2013, the old rules would still apply.
