§ 7509 Document Title Adequacy Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •This law helps decide if a paper (like a title or receipt) is good enough for a sale, lease, or letter of credit.
  • •Other parts of the law (Divisions 2, 5, and 10) explain the rules for these papers.
  • •If you're buying, leasing, or using a letter of credit, check those other parts to make sure your paper is okay.

Example

You buy a used car and get a title from the seller.

This law says you should check Division 5 to make sure the title is valid and does what it's supposed to do.
