§ 10522 Lessee Recovery Of Goods

This law says if you rent something and pay some or all of the money, but the rental company goes broke within 10 days of your first payment, you can get your stuff back if you pay the rest of what you owe.

Key Takeaways

  • •You can only get your rented stuff back if the rental company goes broke within 10 days of your first payment.
  • •You must pay the rest of the rent and deposit you owe to get the stuff back.
  • •The stuff you get back must be exactly what you rented, no substitutes.

Example

You rent a laptop and pay the first month's rent and deposit. The rental store goes out of business a week later.

You can get the laptop back if you pay the rest of the rent you owe, as long as the laptop is exactly what you rented.
