§ 9356 Stop Payment Notice Deadlines

• •You can stop payment on a construction job, but you have to do it fast.
• •If the job is officially marked as done, you have 30 days to stop payment.
• •If the job isn’t officially marked as done, you have 90 days to stop payment.
• •After that time, you can’t stop payment anymore.

You hire someone to build a new porch, but they do a bad job. You don’t want to pay them.

If the builder files paperwork saying the job is done, you have 30 days to tell the bank to stop payment. If they don’t file that paperwork, you have 90 days. After that, you can’t stop the payment.
