§ 8602 Contractor Bond Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you hire someone to do a big job (like building a house), you can ask them to promise they’ll finish the job and pay everyone who helps them.
  • •This promise can be in the form of a special agreement (like a bond) to make sure you don’t lose money if they don’t do the work or pay their workers.
  • •The law doesn’t stop you from asking for this extra protection—it’s allowed.

Example

You hire a company to build a new kitchen in your house.

You can ask the company to sign a bond (a kind of promise) that says they’ll finish the kitchen and pay all the workers. If they don’t, the bond helps you get your money back or fixes the problem.
