§ 8046 Subcontractor Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •A subcontractor is someone who works for another contractor, not directly for the owner of the project.
  • •Subcontractors can work for the main contractor or even for other subcontractors.
  • •They are part of the team but don’t have a direct deal with the person who owns the project.

Example

Imagine you hire a builder to fix your house. The builder then hires a plumber to fix the pipes.

The plumber is a subcontractor because they work for the builder, not directly for you (the house owner).
