§ 5600 Association Assessment Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •The group in charge (like a homeowners association) must collect enough money to do their job, like fixing shared areas.
  • •They can't charge more money than they need for the things they're supposed to pay for.
  • •If they need extra money for something special, they can ask for it, but it still can't be more than needed.

Example

Your neighborhood has a shared park that needs repairs.

The homeowners association can ask everyone to pay a little extra to fix the park, but they can't charge more than what the repairs will actually cost.
