§ 1523 Accord And Satisfaction

This law says that if a creditor accepts part of what is owed in writing, the whole debt is considered paid and no longer owed.

Example

A borrower pays part of a loan after the lender agrees in writing that this payment ends the debt.

Because the lender wrote down that the partial payment satisfies the whole loan, the borrower no longer owes the rest.

How to Calculate

ObligationStatus = 0 if PartPerformanceAcceptedInWriting else 1

  1. Check if the creditor has written acceptance of the partial performance.
  2. If yes, set ObligationStatus to 0 (the obligation is extinguished).
  3. If no, ObligationStatus stays 1 (the obligation continues).
