§ 8803 Expired License Renewal Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If you don't renew your license for 5 years, you can't just renew it—you have to get a brand new one.
  • •To get a new license after 5 years, you must pass the test again and not have done anything bad that would stop you from getting a license.
  • •Sometimes, you might not have to pay the full fee if you don’t need to take the test again.

Example

You have a driver’s license but forget to renew it for 6 years.

You can’t just renew it—you have to take the driving test all over again and prove you didn’t break any big rules (like drunk driving) in those 6 years. If you pass, you get a new license.
