§ 6077 Attorney Discipline Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Lawyers in the state must follow special rules about how they behave and do their job.
  • •If a lawyer breaks these rules on purpose, they can get in trouble.
  • •The punishment can be a warning (private or public) or they might not be allowed to work as a lawyer for up to 3 years.

Example

A lawyer takes money from a client but doesn’t do the work they promised.

This is breaking the rules because lawyers must do their job honestly. The lawyer could get a public warning or even be stopped from working as a lawyer for a while.
