§ 5665 License Suspension And Renewal

Key Takeaways

  • •If your license is suspended, you can still renew it, but you can't use it until the suspension is over.
  • •If your license is revoked, you can't renew it. You have to wait until it's reinstated.
  • •If your revoked license expires before it's reinstated, you'll have to pay a fee to get it back. This fee is the same as the renewal fee plus any late fees.

Example

If you get too many speeding tickets and your driver's license is suspended, you can still renew it when it's time, but you can't drive until the suspension is over.

Even though you renewed your license, you still can't drive because it's suspended. You have to wait until the suspension ends.

§ 5665 License Suspension And Renewal

A suspended license is subject to expiration and shall be renewed as provided in this article, but such renewal does not entitle the holder of the license, while it remains suspended and until it is reinstated, to engage in the activity to which the license relates, or in any other activity or conduct in violation of the order or judgment by which it was suspended. A revoked license is subject to expiration as provided in this chapter, but it may not be renewed. If it is reinstated after its expiration, the holder of the license, as a condition precedent to its reinstatement, shall pay a reinstatement fee in an amount equal to the renewal fee in effect on the last regular renewal date before the date on which it is reinstated, plus the delinquency fee, if any, accrued at the time of its revocation. (Amended by Stats. 1998, Ch. 879, Sec. 22.22. Effective January 1, 1999.)
