§ 4929 Acupuncture Board Composition

Key Takeaways

  • •The board has 7 members: 3 acupuncturists with 5+ years of experience and 4 regular people who aren’t doctors or acupuncturists.
  • •The acupuncturists on the board should represent different cultures from the acupuncture profession.
  • •The Governor picks 3 acupuncturists and 2 regular people, but the Senate has to approve them.
  • •The Senate and Assembly leaders each pick one regular person for the board.
  • •Any board member can be kicked out for bad behavior, not doing their job, or breaking rules—but they get a chance to defend themselves first.

Example

Imagine a group that decides rules for acupuncturists in the state.

This group has 3 acupuncturists who’ve worked for at least 5 years and 4 regular people who aren’t in the medical field. The Governor picks most of them, but others are chosen by leaders in the government. If someone on the group isn’t doing their job right, they can be removed—but only after they’re told why and get to explain themselves.
