§ 3731 Respiratory Care Practitioner Titles

Key Takeaways

  • •If you have a license as a respiratory care practitioner, you can only call yourself a 'respiratory care practitioner' or use the letters 'RCP'.
  • •You cannot use the word 'doctor' or 'Dr.' or anything that makes people think you are a medical doctor.
  • •You can only use 'M.D.' if you are also licensed as a medical doctor in this state.

Example

A person named Alex is a licensed respiratory care practitioner but not a medical doctor.

Alex can call himself a 'respiratory care practitioner' or use 'RCP' after his name. But he cannot call himself 'Dr. Alex' or use 'M.D.' because that would make people think he is a medical doctor, which he is not.
