§ 2733 Temporary Nursing Licenses

Key Takeaways

  • •You can get a temporary nursing license or certificate for 6 months while waiting for your full license.
  • •You have to pay a fee to get this temporary license or certificate.
  • •If your full license application is denied or if the temporary one was issued by mistake, it will be canceled.
  • •You can ask for an extension if you're delayed in getting your full license, but only twice.

Example

A nurse named Sarah just moved to California and applied for her full nursing license. While waiting for her full license to be approved, she applies for a temporary license so she can start working.

Sarah can get a temporary license for 6 months by paying the required fee. This lets her work as a nurse while her full license application is being processed. If her full license application gets denied, her temporary license will be canceled.
