§ 26211 Cannabis Regulation Initial Funding

Key Takeaways

  • •The state gave money to start and run cannabis rules and programs until July 2017 or when the 2017 budget was approved, whichever came later.
  • •The money given was supposed to be paid back by January 2025 using fees and taxes from cannabis sales.
  • •A public information program was created to teach people about cannabis laws, dangers of driving high, and health risks like using cannabis while pregnant.
  • •The program also explains why cannabis is only for people 21 and older and the penalties for giving it to younger people.

Example

The state gave $30 million to start the cannabis program and $5 million for a public information campaign.

This money was like a loan to get things running, and it was supposed to be paid back using the money made from cannabis taxes and fees.
