§ 2183 Medical Licensing Exam Requirements

• •To become a doctor in this state, you must pass a big test that covers medical science, patient care, and caring for older people.
• •If you apply to be a doctor after January 1, 2004, you must have taken classes in geriatric medicine (caring for older people) in medical school or during extra training after medical school.
• •The test and classes are required to make sure doctors know how to take care of patients, especially older ones, without needing supervision.

A person finishes medical school and wants to become a doctor in this state.

Before they can start working as a doctor, they must pass a big test that includes questions about medical science, taking care of patients, and caring for older people. If they applied after 2004, they also need to show they took classes in geriatric medicine. If they don’t pass the test or take the classes, they can’t get their doctor’s license.
