§ 19821 Public Meeting And License Records

Key Takeaways

  • •Meetings and license applications are public records—anyone can look at them.
  • •Some records are kept private, and sharing them without permission is against the law.
  • •Courts can’t force the department to share personal info unless there’s a really good reason.

Example

You apply for a business license, and your neighbor wants to see your application.

Your neighbor can look at your license application because it’s public. But if they try to get your private info from the department without a good reason, the department can say no.
