§ 18881 Boxer Pension Funding Plan

Key Takeaways

  • •There's a special retirement fund for pro boxers who fight in this state.
  • •The fund gets money from a $1 fee on every ticket sold for a boxing match, but no more than $10,000 per match.
  • •Boxers, their managers, or promoters might also have to pay into this fund to make sure there's enough money.
  • •The fund must be checked by experts to make sure it has enough money to pay boxers later.

Example

A big boxing match sells 15,000 tickets.

The first 10,000 tickets each add $1 to the boxers' retirement fund. The extra 5,000 tickets don't add more because the law says the maximum from tickets is $10,000 per match. So, the fund gets $10,000 from ticket sales for this match.
