§ 18852 Fighter Payment Advance Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •Fighters usually don't get paid before a fight.
  • •A promoter can give a fighter up to $1,000 plus travel and living costs before the fight, but only if the commission says it's okay in writing.
  • •The $1,000 advance (not counting travel and living costs) can't be more than 20% of the fighter's total pay for the fight.

Example

A fighter is supposed to earn $10,000 for an upcoming match.

The promoter wants to give the fighter some money early. The promoter can give up to $1,000 plus travel and living costs, but the $1,000 part can't be more than 20% of the $10,000 pay. So, the fighter can get $1,000 early because 20% of $10,000 is $2,000, and $1,000 is less than that.
